Symantec National Security Group
Andrew Borene, JD, CISSP is the Senior Director of Symantec’s Federal National Security Group. In this role, he is responsible for leading a team that delivers innovation and integrated cyber defense solutions to protect US National Security and Intelligence Community customers.
Before joining Symantec, Borene was a senior advisor to the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) where he supported industry, academic, military and worldwide partnership efforts. In previous government service, he was an Associate Deputy General Counsel at the Department of Defense. After 9/11, he served overseas as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, and later was awarded a U.S. State Department Fellowship to study post-conflict peacebuilding efforts in Northern Ireland.
In the private sector, Borene has served in leadership positions with IBM, LexisNexis and Wells Fargo & Co. He has also led rapid growth initiatives for high technology companies in big data, robotics, advanced analytics, and specialized service areas for customers.
Borene is a recognized media analyst on technology, law and national security policy. He has been the homeland program director at George Mason University Law School’s National Security Institute and has held adjunct faculty appointments at Georgetown University, American University, Macalester College and the University of Minnesota.
Borene is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and chairs the Cyber Security Summit advisory board. He has served as an industry member of the Council on Technology and Innovation for the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, and on the Executive Board for the National Defense Industrial Association’s Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict Division.
He has been recognized with the FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Service in the Public Interest and is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
